Epoxy Sealant: Types, Uses, And ApplicationsAs a proven effective coating for concrete, masonry and other materials, there is now a great demand for epoxy sealant by the construction industry. In this article, we will be discovering the different types of epoxy sealants, their uses, and how they are applied.
Different Types of Epoxy Sealant
Unlike most types of sealants, which only have one component (single-component sealants), epoxy sealants consist of two separate components (two-component sealants). Most epoxy sealants consist of a resinous material and a hardening agent which is suspended in either water or solvents based on the intended application. When any two components when mixed together, the combination go through a permanent chemical reaction.
1. Solvent-based.
2. Water-based.
3. 100% Solid type (no water or solvent).
4. Marine/gel type.
The fourth type is designed for high performance applications as it incorporates the most advanced hardeners and resins on the market, while the second type is the most common of all four types and is designed for light-traffic applications such as sealing a residential driveway or countertop.
Solvent-based, the first type, is the mid-range option for moderate traffic applications such as sealing of a floor or parking lot in a small boutique. While the 100 percent solids epoxy sealant made from 100 percent solids often provides the most durable and long lasting solution, but is also the most expensive.

Concrete joint sealant, as the name implies, is a kind of sealant specifically designed and used for concrete joints. As we know, all concrete, once placed, will contract slightly during the curing (hardening) process and this is the primary cause of small surface cracks that appear. Also, when set, concrete will expand or contract slightly due to the surrounding temperature. Thus it is recommended that one incorporates some form of movement joint within larger slabs and this is where concrete expansion joint sealant enters the picture.
Concrete expansion joint Sealants are used for caulking and sealing joints subject to concrete movement to provide a firm, flexible, weather-tight seal. See the Sealants and Mastics supplier’s website on Arbo Brand Sealants for collections of high quality and high performance sealants such as its collection of expansion joint sealant products which include:
